After a short 110 mile drive we set up in St. John. The next morning dawned foggy and misty with a chance of rain, which New Brunswick also needs. We were lucky that the wildfire burning had not closed our route here otherwise it would have been a five hour slog over rough and hilly terrain to get here. We boarded the bus in the fog and toured in the fog. Our stop at Martello Tower was just to view a 15 minute movie about the tower and how it was built since it was being rehabilitated due to water leakage and general lack of maintenance. It is name for a type of tower that the British built that could with stand a siege and cannon fire due to its thick wall and cyinder shape. During WWI a concrete lookout and signal structure was built on top of the lower structure that was built in the 1800's and over the years, the newer structure proved to be to heavy causing the leaks and general degradation of the structure, hence it being close for work. We boarded the bus in the fog and proceeded to the reversing falls. So named because of the falls that used to exist eons ago but had since eroded away so now you have the reversing rapids which is a simple tidal bore.

It was starting to spit rain, the seals that were swimming around here were not being cooporative and you really couldnt get a good picture of the reversing rapids. The only one behaving was a seagull! It was back on the bus and we learned that Bill and Ann, the wagonmasters, were going to treat us to ICE CREAM! Now that got our attention.

Everyone screams for Ice Cream! Many thanks to Ann, the lady in the yellow hat, and her husband Bill, for buying. Later, on the bus, our tour guide produced some "dulse" Dulse is a red seaweed common in the North Atlantic and Pacific. It is collected, washed, dried then sold as a "popular" snack food. Lets just say it is an acquired taste. In my opinion, you would have to start acquiring the taste at about age one! Very salty and a tough chew, kinda like fruit leather without the sweet taste. It is high in iodine though.
After a quick stop at a local fair/market in an area park, we headed back to the campground and prepared for the short hop to our last stop on tour in Canada.
